"USNORTHCOM's Area of Responsibility (AOR) includes air, land and sea approaches and encompasses the continental United States, Canada, Mexico and the surrounding water out to approximately 500 nautical miles (930ย km). It also includes the Gulf of Mexico, the Straits of Florida, portions of the Caribbean region to include The Bahamas, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands, Bermuda, and the Turks and Caicos Islands.[13] The commander of USNORTHCOM is responsible for theater security cooperation with Canada, Mexico, and The Bahamas.[14] In May 2011, NORTHCOM was mobilized in the wake of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico[15] to provide air, ground, and logistical support.[16] In October 2014, NORTHCOM took administrative control of Alaskan Command.[17]"

The U.S. Congress formally declares war, saying that the state of war between the United States and Spain began April 21. In the United States, this is known as the Spanish- American War. In Cuba, it is known as the U.S. intervention in Cubaโ€™s War of Independence.

Alan Dulles tells Collins that killing of South Vietnamese puppet dictator Diem being "debated at the highest level" and to "prepare" for "some changes in relation to Diem": "On April 25, Dulles replied to Collins that the matter was being debated โ€œat the highest level,โ€ and that Collins โ€œshould be prepared for [the] possibility that this might involve some changes in relations to Diem.
